about us

Mending Harts’ programs will be overseen by our Founder and Executive Director,

Millard & Reva Hart.
Millard & Reva Hart married with children young. They know first-hand account of the challenges
that can leave parenting and pregnant teens with a sense of hopelessness. Parenting at any age can be challenging, but it can be particularly difficult for adolescent parents.
Compared with their peers who delay childbearing, teen girls who have babies are: less likely to
finish high school; more likely to rely on public assistance; more likely to be poor as adults; and
more likely to have children who have poorer educational, behavioral, and health outcomes over
the course of their lives than do children born to older parents. Ensuring that adolescent parents
receive adequate social and emotional, medical, and academic support is essential to the parent
and the baby’s future. That is why by investing in teen parents today, Mending Harts protects the
future of two generations: the young parents themselves and their babies. Supporting adolescent
parents to acquire life skills, improve parenting abilities, heal past wounds, and lead
transformational lives helps them become self-sufficient and better able to support themselves
and their families.

It also establishes a strong, stable foundation upon which their children will be
raised. Our goal is to collectively work to improve the lives of these young, overlooked and
impoverished families by educating, inspiring and mobilizing a worldwide community to raise
their voice. The focus of our programs is to identify and mitigate their risk factors, create a safe
place for healing and transformation, and facilitate a smooth and successful transition to long-
term family sustainability and success. In doing so, our program strategies will include:
individual and family life coaching, parent coaching, life skills training, academic and career services, helping families in need,
family empowerment and engagement, and advocacy to reduce and eliminate the risks and/or
effects of domestic violence, child abuse and neglect.
